GREENVILLE — The Walnut Hills Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is holding a fundraiser to help make a difference for the students.
The fundraiser is from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Big Boy, at 1500 W. Washington St. in Greenville.
Through the event, 15 percent of all receipts will go to the Walnut Hills Elementary School PTO.
PTO President Christian Sowers said it is important for people to attend the fundraiser for many reasons.
“First, to show support for our organization that we, as a community, will not give up on the children and staff of Walnut Hills,” he said. “Second, to help fund the goal of the PTO to coordinate activities that are educational, interesting and fun for our students and their families throughout the school year. We also provide for our teachers and support staff. Lastly, this fundraiser will greatly help the PTO recovering from our recent financial setback.”
That setback stems from an alleged embezzlement of funds by the organization’s former treasurer.
In order to participate in the fundraiser, a flyer must be presented. Flyers can be printed out from the school’s Facebook page or from its website, www.greenville.k12.mi.us. Sowers said the flyer can be presented on a person’s smart phone, as well.
Hard copies of the flyer can also be picked up at the school.
In the past couple of years, the Walnut Hills Elementary School PTO has been able to make contributions to the school with purchases like playground equipment, classroom enhancements, along with special events and making frequent additions to its library and media collection.
PTOs are not directly affiliated with the school and are organizations that provide support for a variety of programs and needs not addressed in the school operating budget.
