GREENVILLE — Area sportsmen will have another choice for equipment, ammo and more come April 1. That’s if Kelly Skarl, owner of the soon-to-open Pro Outfitters, on Lafayette Street, manages to get his recently purchased building ready in time.
At present, Skarl and his crew are in the throes of some heavy-duty remodeling at the 500 N. Lafayette location, formerly the home of the
Hi-Delite family restaurant and, more recently, Excelsior Games and Comics, which relocated to 306 S. Lafayette St.
Skarl hopes that, by April, all renovations will be complete and the store will be fully stocked.
Much of that stock will come from a part-time business Skarl has for some time been running on Clay Street.
“The business there (on Clay) has been going quite well,” Skarl said. “So we decided to move up onto main street.”
When the store opens in April, it will carry hunting apparel, ammunition, archery equipment and trapping supplies. Skarl also hopes to be able to offer firearms, though the licensing process is currently ongoing and yet to be approved. Skarl added that there is no reason the license won’t be granted, however.
The store also will carry equipment for youth hunting.
“We’ll have bows, BB guns and stuff like that,” Skarl said. “We’d like to kind of direct ourselves toward the youth and get them involved, get them away from video games. We’ll see how it goes. This is my first go-round at something like this.”
Skarl is no stranger to running his own business, however; he also owns Pro Lawn and Landscape in Greenville.
