STANTON — It’s Animal Control, not Animal Shelter.

Montcalm County Animal Control Director Angela Sova Hollinshead appeared before the county’s Economic Development & Physical Resources Committee on Monday to request permission for the Animal Control building to be painted.

Hollinshead noted that while the building itself and signs along the road read “Animal Shelter,” the proper name is Animal Control. This will be clarified on the building, as well as on new signs in the future.

“We’ve always been Montcalm County Animal Control,” Hollinshead said. “Some people want to call us the Montcalm County Animal Shelter. We want to lean more toward Animal Control.”

“Good,” said Commissioner Ron Baker of Howard City. “I was hoping for some consistency there.”

Hollinshead said the Country Cruisers 4-H group from Sidney recently offered to paint the Animal Control building in Stanton.

“They just called me one day and said we have a community project that we want to do and we’ve seen the color of the building and we want to paint it,” Hollinshead said. “It was really nice of them to want to do that.

“We’re thinking of probably a forest green color because the current green color would probably be hard to paint over,” she added. “They’re not going to paint the roof. We were thinking perhaps sometime down the line requesting to have our roof sealed, but that’s a different matter.”

The Country Cruisers will paint the outside walls, trim and window awnings of the building. The project will be fully funded by a grant obtained by the 4-H group.
