Carson City teenager accidentally shot in leg with .45 caliber handgun

CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP— A Carson City teenager is recovering after accidentally being shot in the leg with a handgun.

Montcalm County sheriff’s deputies responded to Carson City Hospital after receiving a report that a man was seeking treatment to his leg after having been shot with a .45 caliber handgun.

The 18-year-old Carson City man received the gunshot wound at a home in Crystal Township on Saturday evening.

Investigation revealed the man had been sighting in his handgun at the residence. While inside the home he and a 23-year-old old Carson City man were disassembling their weapons. The 23-year-old thought he unloaded his handgun and while attempting to disassemble the weapon it discharged shooting the victim in the leg. The victim was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

Deputies continue to investigate this case and the Montcalm County Prosecutor’s Office will review to determine if any charges will be issued.
