EVERGREEN TOWNSHIP — A Stanton man is expected to make a full recovery after he fell through the ice on a private pond Saturday afternoon.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies responded at approximately 4:04 p.m. to the 1500 block of S. Sheridan Road.

Harry Eugene Baker, 65, went onto the ice to retrieve his dog when he broke through into chest-deep water. Upon arrival, deputies found Baker was unable to get out of the water due to the cold and icy conditions.

Using rescue throw bags, which are carried in all sheriffs’ patrol cars, the deputies were able to get a rope to him and pull him to safety.

Baker was treated for hypothermia and transported to Sheridan Community Hospital by Montcalm County Emergency Services.
