Yellow Jackets 4th: Greenville finished fourth at the preseason O-K Bronze jamboree at Boulder Creek on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets shot 353 to finish fourth. Forest Hills Northern was first with 323, while Forest Hills Eastern second with 336. Northern’s Drew Pennington was match medalist with a 76. Ryan Davis led Greenville with an 81. Danny Bohner added an 89, Brady McNeill 90 and Jake Visch 93. Next match: at Forest Hills Central Invitational Friday.
Greenville 2-0: The Yellow Jackets began the season on Tuesday with two O-K Bronze wins over Forest Hills Eastern. The Yellow Jackets won game one 3-2 and game two 17-1 in five innings. In game one, Parker Syrjala pitched a complete game allowing two runs, one earned on four hits and four walks with 12 strikeouts. Syrlaja also doubled and had an RBI. Max Little and Peter Januzelli each had one hit. Travis Groom pitched a complete game one-hitter in game two. He struck out four. Syrjala had three hits, scored three runs and had five RBI. Caleb Vinton drove in three runs. Nick Reamer drove in two runs, while Tyler Orr, Matt LeBlanc, Austin McCarty and Travis Groom each had one RBI. Record: 2-0 (2-0). Hornets split with White Cloud: Central Montcalm split their CSAA games on Tuesday at White Cloud. Central won game one 12-2, but lost the second game 22-20. Paige Switzer earned the game one win. She went six innings with 10 strikeouts, eight walks and just two hits. Makayla Studley had three hits and three RBI. Switzer also had three hits and three RBI. The Hornets led 7-0 in the in first inning in game two, but could not hold on in the high scoring game. Record: 1-1 (1-1). Next games: at home Friday against Big Rapids.
CC-Crystal JV wins two: The JV Eagles had their doubleheader with Vestaburg moved to Vestaburg, but the Wolverines couldn’t take advantage and lost both games 17-3 in five innings and 12-7 Tuesday. Whitney LaVictor threw a one-hitter in the opener, striking out eight but walking six. Regan Heckman and Karrigan Flick had three hits each and LaVictor, Bailey Melton and Kennedy Murphy added two hits each. The second game was won by Kendal Norton, who allowed the seven runs on five hits, eight walks and three strikeouts. Despite having seven hits, no CC-Crystal player had more than one. Record: 2-0.
