Greenville 5, FH Eastern 1: The Yellow Jackets remained perfect with a win on Monday at Davenport University. Parker Syrjala earned his second win in as many starts. Syrjala struck out 12 batters. The Yellow Jackets scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to open up a 5-1 advantage. Caleb Vinton doubled in two runs and Jacob Crittenden singled in the final run for the win. Austin Sherman had two hits for Greenville. Record: 3-0 (3-0). Next game: at Cedar Springs today.

Lakeview falls twice: The Wildcats lost to Morley Stanwood 6-0 and 10-4 at home Monday. Damion Beckett took the loss. He went five innings, allowing four runs, three earned runs, four walks and had six strikeouts. Jordan Stephens and Calvin Englund each had one hit. Chad Kain took the loss in game two. He went seven innings, allowing 10 runs, seven earned runs, eight hits, six strikeouts and two walks. Five Wildcats had one hit each. Garrett Cavendish had one hit and scored two runs. Kyler Ridgeway had an RBI single, while Brad Hamlin, Stephens and Beckett each had singles. Record: 0-5 (0-4). Next game: at Chippewa Hills today.


Central Montcalm splits: The Hornets hosted Big Rapids and lost game one 2-0, but won game two 15-5. Paige Switzer went the distance and took the loss. She struck out six and allowed just two hits. Michaela Crooks had two hits in game one. Freshman Paige Ledin earned her first win of the season. She she allowed five hits, no walks and struck out five in game two. Makayla Studley homered, Maddie Christensen had two hits and two RBIs. Record: 3-3 (2-2). Next game: at Morely Stanwood today.


Lakeview 2, Reed City 1: The Wildcats earned a nice CSAA road win on Monday. Brookelyn Reed scored two goals, while Maddie Shurlow had an assist. Danielle Grant made three saves for Lakeview. The Wildcats scored early in the first half and led 1-0 at halftime. Reed City tied the game early in the second half, but Reed responded quickly with the game winning goal. Quote: “For our first full game of the season it went really well. The girls played really well together. We have details to work out, but overall we were happy with the game.” — Lakeview coach Chris Smith. Record: 2-0 (2-0). Next game: at home Wednesday against Fremont.

Belding 4, Lakewood 3: The Redskins picked up a nonconference road win on Monday over the Vikings. Tina Griffioen followed up a two goal effort on Friday with three goals on Monday. Hailey Batzer had one goal and an assist, while Joesi Krieger also had one assist. Samantha Parker made 15 saves for Belding. Record: 3-1 (2-1). Next game: at home Wednesday against Sparta.


Butternut golfers second at Alma: Butternut Homeschoolers boys golf team finished with a team score of 335 to finish second at the Panther Classic at Alma Monday. That was just nine shots behind the host Panthers and two shots ahead of Roscommon. Caleb Wyman and Isaac Crouse each had an 83, David Crouse added an 84 and Isaiah Wyman shot an 85 for Butternut. The Crouse boys and Caleb Wyman were each medalists for being in the top 10 individually.
