GREENVILLE — With the O-K Bronze Conference track meet just a week away, the Greenville Yellow Jackets had a chance Thursday to improve positioning before the final meet.

Both the boys and girls teams did just that with victories over the Forest Hills Northern Huskies at Yellow Jacket Stadium. The boys team won 84-53, while the girls team won 94-42.

“I’m just excited for them,” Greenville boys coach Tim O’Brien said. “We had a lot of PR’s (personal records). The guys ran well and our field events did a nice job.”

The boys team placed first in 10 of 17 events.

Greg Krusniak led the field events with two first place finishes. He won the discus with a throw of 124-4 3/4 and the shot put with 44-9.

Carter Stephens also won two events. He won the 100-meter dash (11.66) and 200 in 23.70.

The Yellow Jackets swept all four relay events.

Kyle Reamer was a part of the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams, in addition to taking first in the 800 run with a time of 2:08.60.

“Kyle Reamer just runs on guts,” O’Brien said. “Tyler Rasmussen same thing, and our throwers have done a nice job all season long.”

Rasmussen placed first in the 400, 800 and 1,600 relay teams. He placed second in the 400 dash in 53.85, as well.

Other firsts included Stephen Roy in the long jump (18-9 1/2) and Jesse Muniz the pole vault (11-0).

The boys team improved to 3-2 overall and in the league with the makeup.

“It’s unfortunate we have not had a lot of meets so we don’t have a lot of times,” O’Brien said. “We are so much better, though running this one today than if we did a month ago.”

The girls team cruised and got a boost from its field teams, as they swept four of five events.

“It was awesome. Coming in we thought it was going to be a little closer,” Greenville girls coach Sharon Gianacakos said. “Our girls came out great. Our field events were huge, we went 1-2-3 in high jump, discus, shot put and long jump.”

Greenville’s Kyle Reamer crosses the finish line first in the 800 run on Thursday against Forest Hills Northern at Yellow Jacket Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets won 12 of 17 events against the Huskies.

Taylor Baker led the Greenville with charge with four firsts. Baker won the 100 (12.87), 200 (26.71), long jump (15-0 1/4) and was member of the winning 800 relay team (1:48.46).

“Taylor (Baker), Audrey (Wyse) and the relays all had great performances,” Gianacakos said. “Now we have to work on conference.”

Wyse also won four events. She placed first in the 100 hurdles (16.48), 300 hurdles (48.14), pole vault (10-6) and was a member on the 800 relay.

Other firsts include Taylor Zimmer in the discus (84-3 1/2), Taylor Christensen in the high jump (4-10) and Leah Somerfield in the shot put (33-10).

Greenville won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Gianacakos was expecting a closer meet, but said it helped the team mentally thinking it would be closer.

“I think it did. The girls have to know there is always someone out there better and they do,” Gianacakos said. “Our girls are working hard and they want to win. Whoever wants to perform will do their best.”

The girls improved to 4-1 overall and in the league.

Both teams will compete at Cedar Springs Saturday. The conference meet will also take place at Cedar Springs beginning on Thursday.
