Baseball

Lakeview 1-1: The Wildcats split their two games on Saturday as part of the Tri County Invitational. Lakeview lost game one 3-0 to Cheboygan. Damion Beckett took the loss. All three runs were unearned. Garrett Cavindish, Kyler Ridgeway and Beckett each had one hit. Lakeview defeated Big Rapids 9-6 in game two. Calvin Brackett earned the win. Cavendish, Ridgeway and Joey Cole each had two hits. Cavendish had two RBI and Ridgeway one RBI. Record: 5-10. Next games: at Central Montcalm Tuesday.

Belding 0-2: The Redskins lost twice on Saturday. Belding lost to Haslett 7-2 and to Qunicy 8-1. Kole Hart took the loss in four innings of work. Haslett scored once in the third inning and four times in the fourth inning. Belding answered with two in the fifth, but Hastlett score single runs in the final two innings for the win. Against Quincy, the game was scoreless after two innings. Quincy then score three in the third, once in the fourth and twice in the fifth and sixth innings. Belding’s only run came in the fifth inning. Next games: at home against Sparta on Tuesday.

Softball

Belding 3-1: The Redskins placed second out of 12 teams on Saturday at the Northview Invitational. Belding defeated Rockford in game one 4-3. Caitlin Alkire earned the win. Mariah Henitzelman had two hits, while Makayla Boss, Alyssa Canterbury and Alkire each had one hit. Belding beat Lowell in game two 5-1. Canterbury pitched a complete game for the win. Rachel Hunt and Brooke Linebaugh each had three hits. The Redskins finished first in their pool and then defeated Jenison 6-4 in the tournament semifinals. Alkire went six innings for the win. Alkire, Hannah Linebaugh and Hunt all had two hits each. In the finals, the Redskins were mercied in five innings 10-0 by Bronson. Canterbury took the loss. Boss had the only Belding hit. Record: 11-2. Next games: at home Tuesday against Sparta.

Greenville 1-2: The Yellow Jackets started Saturday with a win, but lost the final two games. Greenville opened with a 10-0 five inning win over Allendale. Sarah Newhouse earned the win allowing four hits and no runs. Nikota Howe, Kae Page, Devin Tate each had two hits, while Katlyn Maxon hit her first career home run, a three-run shot. Game two was a 8-6 loss to Covenant Christian. Newhouse took the loss going all seven innings, allowing five hits and six walks. Page had three hits, while Maxon had two hits. Liz Neimic had a three-run triple in the sixth inning. Game three was a 5-0 loss to Morenci. Newhouse and Lexii Canterbury both pitched, but Newhouse took the loss. Neimic and Page each had one hit. Record: 7-5. Next games: at home against FH Northern Tuesday.

Montabella 0-2: The Mustangs took part in the Reed City Invitational on Saturday. They lost game one to the host Coyotes 11-4. Ragen Krampe and Cheyann Frasle combined to allow 11 hits in the loss. Makaila Kent and Melissa Allen each had two hits. Kent and Mariah Davidson each had two RBI. Krampe and Allie Ball each had one hit. Game two was a no-hit loss to Cadillac 15-3. Emily Lint suffered the loss for the Mustangs. Record: 1-9. Next games: today at Ashley.

Boys Track

Greenville 2nd: The Yellow Jackets placed second on Saturday at the Cedar Springs Invitational. Greenville had a couple of first place efforts on an all around consistent day. Carter Stephens was first in the 200-meter dash with 23.15, while the 800 relay team took first with 1:32.50. The relay team consisted of Will Kronlein, Tyler Rasmussen, Alex Dillon and Stephens. Austin Douglas was third in the 110 hurdles (16.34), Eric Plate third in the 100 dash (11.62), Alex Dillon third in the 200 dash (23.77) and the 400 relay was third, as well. Next meet: Thursday at Cedar Springs for the O-K Bronze tournament.

Girls track

Greenville 4th: The Yellow Jackets were fourth on Saturday at the Cedar Springs Invitational. Taylor Baker took first in the 100 dash (12.91) and Audrey Wyse was first in the 400 dash (1:00.60) Wyse also set a meet record with a first place in the pole vault at 10-9. Taylor Christensen was second in the high jump at 4-8 and was third in the 100 hurdles at 17.13. Ally Berry was third in the 200 dash with 27.50. The Greenville 800 relay was third with 1:47.12. The team consisted of Wyse, Taylor Bretzke, Berry and Baker. Next meet: Thursday at Cedar Springs for the O-K Bronze tournament.
