Softball

Montabella 2-0: The Mustangs won a pair of MSAC games at Ashley on Monday. Montabella raked 18 hits on the Bears in game one for an 18-5 win. Emily Lint earned the win, allowing five hits and five walks. Mariah Davidson and Allie Ball each had three hits. Sarah Miller had two hits and three RBI, while Sarah Ranney and Makalia Kent each added two hits. Game two was closer, but still a 9-7 win for the Mustangs. Cheyann Frasle earned the win by working the first four innings and the final seventh inning. Kayla LaCroix had three hits and two RBI, Frasle had two hits and three RBI, while Davidson, Miller and Lint all had two hits. Record: 3-9. Next games: at home against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart today.

Soccer

Greenville 2, West Catholic 0: The Yellow Jackets earned a home shut out on Monday against league rival West Catholic. Megan O’Brien and Sam O’Herron each scored goals assisted by Rachel Taft. Sarah Brown made four saves in goal. Record: 2-5-1. Next game: at Forest Hills Northern Wednesday.

Belding 8, GR Creston 2: The Redskins won on the road against the Polar Bears in O-K Blue play. Belding led 4-2 at halftime and won with four more goals in the second half. Mari Gilde and Haylee Batzer each had three goals, while Ilaria Marini scored twice in the win. Courtney McKeever and Kylee Chickering each had one assist. Chickering made seven saves as keeper in the first half, while Briana VanderPloeg made eight saves in the second half. Next game: at Comstock Park on Wednesday.

Lakeview 1, Big Rapids 1 2OT: The Wildcats and Cardinals could not decide Monday’s match after two overtimes ending the game in a stalemate. Big Rapids scored first, late in the second half, before Brookelyn Reed countered with a goal a minute later. Katie Johnson assisted on the Reed goal. Neither team could score in the two overtimes. Quote: “It was a great game, evenly matched and back and forth. We had a lot of good scoring chances, but couldn’t get a goal.” — Lakeview coach Chris Smith. Record: 6-1-1. Next game: at Reed City Wednesday.

Golf

Lakeview 1st: The Wildcats were first in the CSAA jamboree hosted by Central Montcalm at the Links of Bowen Lake on Monday. Lakeview shot 354 to edge Big Rapids’ 359 and Reed City’s 361. Jon Wandel shot 81, which was good for second overall. RK Boomer added an 86, Kameron Gilbert 87 and Jon King 100. Quote: “Our team performed very well again today. The win is a first for Lakeview golf in some time.” — Lakeview coach Brian Corwin. Next match: at CSAA jamboree host by Big Rapids at Katke Golf Course on Wednesday.

Sleet shoots 79 for Hornets: Central Montcalm did not have enough golfers to qualify for a position in Monday’s CSAA jamboree at home. That did not bother Tyler Sleet, who shot a 79 to earn match medalist honors. Brent Johnson shot 106 and Shawn Malice a 120. Quote: “Tyler continues to improve in all areas including course management, ball striking, chipping and putting.” — Central Montcalm coach Gary Buchholz. Belding 5th: The Redskins shot a team score of 185 on Monday at Wallinwood Springs golf course in an O-K Blue jamboree hosted by Allendale. Comstock Park was first with 152, followed by Coopersville with 169 and Allendale with 173. Carter Kemmis led the Redskins with 43. Grant Hansen added a 44, Nick Badder 46 and Ryan Hill 52. Next match: at O-K Blue jamboree at Moss Ridge hosted by Coopersville on Wednesday.

Girls Track

Central Montcalm 2nd, Lakeview 3rd: The Hornets finished second out of three teams in a makeup CSAA triangular on Monday at home. Morley Stanwood was first with 63.50, followed by Central Montcalm with 47.50 and Lakeview with 26. First place finishes for the Hornets were LaShae Wright in the 100 hurdles (16.06) and high jump (4-6), Ann Karowskin the 800-meter run (2:49.69) and Breanna Collins discus (83-5 3/4). Tasha Sanders had two firsts for the Wildcats. Sanders won the 100 dash (13.43 and the 200 dash (27.43). Lauren Willard won the shot put (30-0 1/2) for Lakeview. Central Montcalm won the 400 and 800 relays. Next meets: Central Montcalm at Chippewa Hills and Lakeview at Hesperia on Wednesday.

Boys track

Lakeview 2nd, CM 3rd: The Wildcats finished second and the Hornets third in a makeup triangular on Monday at Central Montcalm. Morley Stanwood was first with 73 points. Lakeview had 44 and Central Montcalm 20. Lakeview firsts included Drake Boomer in the 200 dash (23.68), long jump (18-6) and high jump (6-1), Peter Betten in the 300 hurdles (46.30) and pole vault (10-6), Mikkel Soerensen in the 400 dash (57.77) and Gus Ward in the shot put (43-10). Central’s Cory Kindle was first in the discus with 108-7 1/2. The Hornets won the 3,200 relay. Next meets: Central Montcalm at Chippewa Hills and Lakeview at Hesperia on Wednesday.
