CARSON CITY — If there’s one thing most dogs hate, it’s bath time. The image of Rover gazing miserably up through a curtain of bubbles and soggy fur is one most pet owners can relate to.
And while cleaning your canine is never going to be a pleasure, exactly, a soon-to-open business in Carson City could go a long way toward making it less of a chore.
On May 31 — if all goes according to plan — Bill Hubler will open Carson City Pet Wash at 540 W. Main St., directly across from the McDonald’s restaurant. The facility will offer all the equipment needed to take your pooch from “mossy to glossy.”
“We’ll have dog shampoo, conditioner and even a skunk scent remover,” Hubler said. “We’ll have flea and tick remover shampoo and a fragrance thing you can spray your dog with, kind of a doggie perfume.”
The facility also will offer doggie-strength blow dryers, grooming tables with ramps and small leads to keep Rover in place throughout the washing procedure.
Hubler already owns two area car washes, so moving on to washing pets was a natural for him. Like a car wash, the pet wash will be coin operated and open every day.
“If (pet owners) feel like it, they can bring their dog in at three in the morning,” Hubler said. “We’ll always be open.”
Hubler is hoping to have the wash open for business by May 31, just in time for Carson City’s annual Frontier Days festival. Equipment is still being installed, however, so that opening date is still somewhat tentative.
Initially, the wash will be able to handle only one dog at a time, however, Hubler plans to install a second washing station if business merits it.
