Belding loses in district final: The Redskins were able to beat Cedar Springs 6-5 in the Division 2 district semifinals but lost to Comstock Park 5-1 in the final. Jacob Spencer got the win against the Red Hawks after he was able to get the final out in the top of the seventh and was the pitcher of record when the Redskins broke the tie. Tyler Strevel had two hits in the win. Spencer took the loss in the final, allowing eight hits and striking out seven. Next game: Belding’s season is over.
Lakeview loses in opener: The Wildcats were eliminated from their Division 3 district when they lost in the semifinals to White Cloud 4-3. Brad Hamlin took the loss, going six innings and allowing four hits while walking five and striking out six. Kyler Ridgeway and Joey Cole were each 2-for-4 in the loss. CC-Crystal also out: The Eagles came close to winning their district game against Sanford Meridian Saturday but fell short 4-3 to the Mustangs. Hunter Clark went the distance and allowed four hits but walked seven and fanned six. Caleb Geselman was the only CC-Crystal player with more than one hit, knocking out two. Record: 10-17-1. Montabella fall early: The Mustangs were ousted in their only Division 4 playoff game, losing 15-0 in four innings to Breckenridge at the Coleman district. Emily Lint took the loss after going the first two innings. Sarah Miller pitched the last two, with the pitchers combining for nine walks and 10 hits allowed. Record: 5-15. CC-Crystal loses in semis: The Eagles were mercied in six innings in their Division 3 regional Saturday, losing to Shepherd 10-0. Katie Wilcox went the distance and allowed 12 hits, walking five and striking out two. CC-Crystal had only four hits in the game by four different players. Record: 16-12. Wyse eighth at state: Audrey Wyse of Greenville got the only place the Yellow Jackets had at the state Division 1 track finals at East Kentwood, taking eighth in the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet.
Baylis places twice at finals: Belding’s Monica Baylis took fourth place in the 800 at the Division 2 state track meet at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern Saturday. Baylis ran two laps in 2:17.44, which was three seconds behind winner Megan O’Neal of Chippewa Hills. Baylis also was a member of the eighth-place 3,200-meter relay team with MacKenzie Rode, Teresa Myles and Rachel Warner (9:45.37).
Wright third in Division 3: Central Montcalm’s LaShae Wright took third place in the 100-meter hurdles at the Division 3 state finals at Comstock Park, finishing in a time of 15.34. The winner was Sami Mitchell of Reed City, whose time was 14.04.
