CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A Crystal-area home is a complete loss after an early morning blaze burned for hours before 911 was called.
The Crystal Township Fire Department was dispatched at 3:31 a.m. Wednesday to 11859 E. Spencer Road, Sumner, located in Crystal Township.
“It was totally engulfed when we arrived,” said Crystal Township Fire Chief Lonny Fitzpatrick. “(The house) was pretty much all down when we got there.”
Fitzpatrick estimates the house had been burning for at least two hours before it was called in to Montcalm County Central Dispatch.
Neighbor across the road saw the blaze in the early morning hours and called for help.
“No one was home at the time of the fire,” Fitzpatrick said. “I don’t know the cause yet.”
The Crystal Township Fire Department received mutual aid from Carson City Fire Department and both were on scene for about two hours, according to Fitzpatrick.
They were also assisted my emergency medical services.
According to Montcalm County property tax information, the owner of the house is Sarah Robert Trefil. Fritzpartick said he does not know if the owner had insurance.
The fire is still under investigation.
