OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP — A Carson City woman died Wednesday after sustaining injuries from a four-vehicle crash Tuesday in Oakfield Township.

Coleen Mary Stoudt, 59, of Carson City, died at about 1:40 p.m. in Grand Rapids, according to a press release by the Michigan State Police.

At 4:57 p.m. Tuesday, Oakfield Township, Michigan State Police, Kent County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical services (EMS) from both Kent and Montcalm counties were dispatched to a crash on 14 Mile Road (M-57) between Lincoln Lake and Podunk roads.

The vehicles involved were a white Chevy Silverado, a maroon Ford F-250, a light-tan Buick Century and a dark-tan Chevy Malibu.

According to Sgt. Scott Wilber of the Michigan State Police Rockford Post, a vehicle heading eastbound was stopped and waiting for traffic to clear to turn left into a child daycare center located at 12485 14 Mile Road.

Wilber said one — possibly two — vehicles were stopped behind that vehicle including the Buick.

Wilber explained the Silverado was almost at a complete stop — if not fully stopped — behind the Buick when the Ford F-250 rear-ended the Silverado sending it into the Buick and then into the westbound lane of 14 Mile Road, where the Silverado hit the Malibu head on and down the driver’s side of the car.

The Malibu, driven by Stoudt, spun out and ended in the ditch at 12437 14 Mile Road.

Four people total were taken to the hospital, three to Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville and Stoudt to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

An update on the other three patients was not available.

Everyone involved in the accident is believed to be from Greenville and Carson City.

Wilber said after the investigation is complete, the information will be handed over to the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office and the prosecutor will decide if charges will be filed against the at-fault driver, the driver of the Ford F-250.
