SHERIDAN — Tim Minikey knows his way around an automobile. For decades he’s been turning a wrench, taking broken vehicles and making them unbroken.
His first professional foray into auto repair was as a mechanic. After that, for 11 years, he ran a tool company.
Minikey’s latest endeavor, which opened in January, is Sheridan Tire & Auto, located at 539 S. Main St. in Sheridan. The location previously housed a garage that specialized only in tire repair.
Minikey’s shop also focuses on fixing tires, but has expanded greatly to include many other auto repair procedures.
“We pretty much do any general (automotive) maintenance,” Minikey said. “We do brakes, shocks, tune-ups, oil changes, air conditioning charging, that sort of thing.”
According to Minikey, business has been good since the shop’s opening. He credits its current success both to the shop’s location and his expert staff, made up of Clint Vinton and Jack Cox.
The fact Minikey is a “townie” also doesn’t hurt, he adds. Over the years, many people have come to know and rely on his skill fixing cars.
“I’ve been a mechanic in Sheridan all my life,” Minikey said. “Everyone knows who I am, or at least recognizes the Minikey name. There are some other garages in town, but we’re the only one right here on main street. We’re a little more centrally located and we do a little more advertising. It really helps.”
In addition to maintenance, Sheridan Tire & Auto also sells both new and used tires and other automotive accessories.
Sheridan Tire & Auto is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
