BREAKING: Perrinton man dies after Crystal Lake boating accident

CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A Perrinton man has died after being pulled from Crystal Lake on the Fourth of July.

Jeffrey Whitehead, 18, was pronounced dead at 8:50 a.m. Sunday by the Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Whitehead was pulled from Crystal Lake by bystanders around 12:23 p.m. Thursday on the east side of Crystal Lake near North Shore Drive.

According to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office, Whitehead had fallen from his boat into the water and was unconscious. Several bystanders pulled the man from the water and began performing CPR. Among the bystanders was a nurse practitioner and someone with life guard training.

Arriving on the scene, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services personnel continued CPR as Whitehead was transported to Carson City Hospital. He was later flown to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.
