MONTCALM TOWNSHIP — A new firm will be auditing Montcalm Township for the biannual audit for this year.
During the Montcalm Township Board meeting on Wednesday, the board approved hiring Lake Michigan CPA to handle this year’s audit.
Supervisor Michael Adams explained townships have to have an audit every other year and it was time for Montcalm Township to have one again.
Clerk Carol Rosebrook said in the past, the township has used Berthiaume and Co. for the audit year ending 2011.
“We were pleased with what they did and they did a wonderful job,” Rosebrook said.
For this year, Berthiaume and Co. gave an estimate of $5,960 to prepare the audit, which the township said had increased since 2011.
“(The board) thought the price was kind of steep,” said Rosebrook, noting she decided to ask other townships who they have used for their audits.
She said Belvidere Township had also decided to switch companies when their prices rose as well, and hired Lake Michigan CPA.
“They are really happy with their services,” Rosebrook said.
Lake Michigan CPA gave Montcalm Township an estimate of $2,800 for this year’s audit, which Rosebrook recommended to the board. She said Pine, Cato and Maple Valley townships also use Lake Michigan CPA.
Adams said during non-audit years, the township is required to fill out a F-65 form that him and Rosebrook prepared together.
With the agreement through Lake Michigan CPA, the company will prepare the form for the township for a fee of about $100.
“That in itself, is worth it,” Rosebrook said.
In other business, the board approved:
• Appointments to the planning commission.
• Appointments to the zoning board administration.
• For the fire department to fill pools under certain restrictions.
