Texas fugitive caught in Crystal Township

CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A Texas man wanted for robbery involving a weapon was arrested Monday after fleeing from a Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies.

While conducting an investigation of intoxicated persons at Crystal Township Park on Friday, deputies with the Montcalm County Sheriff’s office contacted an individual who had an arrest warrant issued against him out of Texas.

The deputy assigned to Crystal Township, while conducting interviews, learned that Samuel Jerald-Stephan Crawford, 19, of the San Antonio, Texas, had a valid arrest warrant out of the Bexar County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was for robbery involving a weapon.

Crawford fled on foot through the park and into Crystal Lake.

Crawford again re-entered the park where he was apprehended without further incident.

A fugitive from Justice warrant was issued for Crawford Monday and he was arraigned that afternoon. Crawford is being held at the Montcalm County Jail without bond pending the extradition process.
