Sparta 2, Greenville 1: The Yellow Jackets fell to the Spartans in a close road match on Monday night. Sparta jumped out to a two goal lead in the first half, before the Yellow Jackets found the back of the net. Jacob Reamer scored for Greenville with an assist from Michael Krogman. Greenville 1-2 at Alma tourney: The Yellow Jackets won just one game at the Alma Invitational Saturday, and that was against Midland Bullock Creek 5-0. The two losses were a 3-2 loss to Big Rapids and a 1-0 loss to the host Panthers. Joe Skinner and Kyle Farmer had the two goals against the Cardinals, and against the Lancers, Andrew Anderson had two goals and single goals came from Jacob Bracey, Mitchell Hall and Brandon Loiselle. William Hollinshead was the goalkeeper for all three games, making a total of 15 saves.
Hornets 2nd: Host Central Montcalm placed second on Monday in a CSAA Jamboree at Holland Lake Golf Course. Big Rapids was first with 371. Central Montcalm shot 436 and Chippewa Hills 479. Ava Miller led the Hornets with 98. Samantha Kirk shot 103, Alex Albright 110 and Nicole Conover 125. Quote: “Ava continues to lead the team. The team continues to improve on ball striking. Tri County shoots 449: The Vikings took part in the NorthPointe Christian Invitational on Monday finishing 12th out of 15. Forest Hills Central won the event with 341. NorthPoint Christian was second with 361 and Grand Rapids South Christian third with 372. Tri County’s Taylir Kral fired an 89, which was good for 10th overall. Lauren Corwin shot 110, Baylee Zemla 121 and Nikki Minard 129. Next match: at Big Rapids Invitational on Thursday.
Greenville at Zeeland East: The Yellow Jackets competed in the Zeeland East Invitational on Monday. Brandon Brom (No. 1 singles) remained undefeated with a 3-0 day (6-0 for the year). Brom only lost seven games all day. Peter Januzelli (No. 3 singles) went 2-1 for the day and is 5-1 for the season. Quote: “We faced much stronger competition today and came out with five match wins.
