TRUFANT — Amber Kibler remembered how much her older sister loved serving as the Trufant Jubilee queen in 2011. She also remembered how her brother enjoyed the year he reigned as Trufant Jubilee prince. So, in a last minute decision, Kibler opted to compete for the queen’s pageant herself.
The decision paid off, as Kibler walked away with the title of Miss Trufant Jubilee Queen 2013.
“I work full-time and didn’t think I would have time to do the pageant,” said Kibler, the daughter of Kris and Dar Lake and Gary and Beckee Kibler, “But it is a family thing where we try to be involved with the Jubilee. This was one thing I could do.”
The 16-year-old Lakeview High School junior will attend as many of the Jubilee events as possible, said Tonya Gorby, pageant coordinator.
“We plan to have the queen and her court more involved in community events throughout the year, as well,” said Gorby, who worked with dance choreographer Deb Miller to prepare the girls for the Thursday night pageant.
“I wanted to try the pageant because I thought it would be fun, would help give me confidence and to be a role model for younger girls,” said Kibler. “Because I joined up late, the most difficult part was the opening dance, but the other girls worked with me and helped me catch up. The most fun part was we all became friends, and there was no cattiness or anything among the nine girls.”
The three queen contestants vied in phases of competition, such as casual wear, formal wear and impromptu question, while the six competing for Junior Miss were judged on casual wear, formal wear and quote.
Kibler donned a simple loose pink chemise blouse with white jeans as her casual look and a turquoise silver accented gown for her evening wear.
When asked who or what makes up her world, she replied, “My grandpa makes up my world because he encourages me and pushes me to be successful and sometimes pushes me out of my comfort zone.”
Kibler’s court includes Raenne Borstler, the daughter of Candi and Brian Scholter, and Tisha Proctor, the daughter of Chad Proctor. Proctor also won the Friendship Award, chosen by the fellow contestants.
Hannah MacDonald, the daughter of Aaron MacDonald and Jim and Wendy Baty, was crowned Junior Miss with sisters Grace and Hannah Schwantdt, the daughters of John and Marianne Schwantdt, rounding out the Junior Miss court.
Madison Gibbons, 7, the daughter of Tony Gibbons and DeAnna Flick, will serve as the 2013 Jubilee Princess.
