Lakeview 36, Morley Stanwood 3: The Wildcats got their season off to a good start with a CSAA win over the Mohawks Thursday night. Nate Shurlow ran in a touchdown from 80 yards and three yards and passed for another to Shawn Lindsey. Caleb Ruvalcaba added a 32-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and a 42-yard field goal and John Zuluaga Torres scored from two yards out for Lakeview. Shurlow ended up with 94 yards on just five carries and was 8-for-11 in the air for 117 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Records: 1-0 and 1-0. Next game: at Holton Sept. 6.

CC-Crystal 42, Mich. Luth. Sem. 14: The Eagles got revenge on the Cardinals Thursday for beating them last year by taking this year’s season opener, forcing six Seminary turnovers and holding them to just 133 yards of offense. Robert Failing had two touchdowns of five yards each, and Garner Cusack, Rhett Pringle, Will Beedy and Dallas O’Green also added single scores for CC-Crystal. Leading the rushing stats was Garrett Tabor, who had 10 carries for 62 yards and Beedy with 12 carries for 39 yards. Pringle was 4-of-8 passing for 54 yards. Record: 1-0. Next game: at home against Manistee Catholic Central Sept. 6.

Vestaburg 32, Breckenridge 0: The Wolverines shut out the Huskies to open the season Thursday night. Keigan Ryckman, Austin Myers and Dewayne McKinney had two touchdowns each for Vestaburg and Christian Benevidez added another as part of five carries for 113 yards on the ground. Ryckman led in rushing with nine carries for 126 yards. Myers was 6-of-17 passing for 92 yards. Record: 1-0. Next game: at home against Onekama Sept. 6.

Saugatuck 48, Montabella 6: The Mustangs were mercied in the first game of the season Thursday. Their only touchdown came from Peter Taylor, who caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Brady Burggren. Burggren finished 18-of-32 for 175 yards and the touchdown, while Tom Wisner led in rushing with six carries for 30 yards. Record: 0-1. Next game: at home against Traverse City Christian Sept. 6.

Chippewa Hills 21, Central Montcalm 0: Results and stats were not sent in to The Daily News by presstime. Records: 0-1 and 0-1. Next game: at White Cloud.



 Greenville fourth at pre-conference tourney: The Yellow Jackets took fourth at the O-K Bronze Pre-Conference Tournament hosted by Grand Rapids Northview Thursday, shooting a team score of 390. Grand Rapids West Catholic was the winner with a 365. Greenville’s top scorers were Taylor Hansen with a 94, Karli Didion with a 97, Rylee Zayler with a 99 and Amanda Kerschen with a 100. Next match: at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern Wednesday.

Greenville JV 224, Big Rapids JV 274: The JV Yellow Jackets beat the JV Cardinals at Glenkerry Golf Course Thursday, getting a 48 from Mariah Kash, 58s from Lyndsey Bosanic and Megan Ayers and a 60 From Tessa Weidenfeller.



 Lakeview 8, Reed City 0: The Wildcats picked up their first win on the season by mercying the Coyotes Thursday. Ryohei Mitsui had two goals and in assist, David Wheeler had two goals and Ricky Harvey, Tristen Taylor and Evan Saxton had single goals. Reed City also put in an own goal. Nate Davis and Jonathan Hansen had assists for Lakeview. Records: 1-2 and 1-1. Next game: at Grant Tuesday.
