REYNOLDS TOWNSHIP — A pregnant woman was injured in an accident this morning when her jeep collided with a tree.

Meanwhile, a dog is missing from the vehicle after going through the windshield.

Howard City police officers responded to the accident on northbound U.S. 131 just south of Cutler Road in Reynolds Township around 9:30 a.m.

A resident in the area called 911 after hearing a crash on the expressway and found a 2005 Jeep Liberty concealed in a heavy brush and wooded area not visible from the roadway.

A 25-year-old woman from Grawn (about 100 miles north of Howard City) was traveling northbound on the expressway when her vehicle left the expressway for an unknown reason, traveled approximately 300 feet and struck a large walnut tree head-on.

The woman, who is pregnant, was conscious and alert when police officers arrived on the scene. She was transported by ambulance to a hospital. The extent of her injuries are currently unknown.

A dog was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. It appears the dog went through the windshield after the vehicle struck the tree. The dog could not be located in the heavy brush and swampy area near the crash.

The dog is described as a 130 pound Rottweiler.

Residents are asked to call Montcalm County Animal Control if they find the dog.

Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services Alpha 3 and Rescue 29 also responded to the scene of the accident.
