Belding boy’s death ruled an accidental drowning

BELDING — A Belding boy died from an accidental drowning, according to preliminary findings from an autopsy report.

According to Belding Police Chief Dale Nelson, Devon Morrison, 10, accidentally drowned in the Flat River in Belding.

Morrison left his home to go fishing Saturday morning. He never returned. His body was discovered early Monday afternoon by divers under the Ashfield Street bridge in Belding.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Morrison’s funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Christler Funeral Home in Houghton Lake. Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A community memorial service in Belding is also being organized and is currently scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday.

A memorial fund has been established at Independent Bank for Morrison’s family. Donations will be accepted at any Independent Bank throughout Michigan.
