Lakeview 17, Chippewa Hills 7: The Wildcats got two touchdowns from Nate Shurlow in beating the Warriors in a CSAA game Friday night. Shurlow’s touchdowns came from 28 and 71 yards, and Caleb Ruvalcaba added a 25-yard field goal for Lakeview. Shurlow finished with 224 yards on 20 carries, while Garrett Cavendish added 71 yards rushing on 20 carries. Records: 3-1 and 3-1. Next game: at Reed City Friday.
Coleman 28, Montabella 8: The Mustangs were beat in the MSAC-South opener for both teams Friday night. The only touchdown for Montabella came in the second quarter to tie the game at eight, and it was a Zach Taubitz 12-yard touchdown with a Brady Burggren-to-Landon Burns two-point pass. Burns had six receptions for 110 yards, Burggren rushed 24 times for 80 yards and threw 28 passes, connecting on 10 for 153 yards and four interceptions. Taubitz had 14 carries for 50 yards. Records: 1-3 and 0-1. Next game: at home against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Friday.
Morley Stanwood 21, Central Montcalm 20: The Green Hornets missed three 2-point conversions and it came back to haunt them in losing to the Mohawks in a CSAA game Friday night. Trenton Braman had two touchdowns of five and 30 yards, Blake Wittkop caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Keegan James and Jacob Palmer was credited with a defensive safety for Central. Braman ended up with 19 runs for 174 yards. James was just 3-of-8 for 57 yards. Defensively James Fancett had seven tackles and a blocked punt and Doug Litwiller added six tackles. Records: 2-2 and 2-2. Next game: at home against Holton Friday.
