2 injured after vehicle overturns in gravel pit

DAY TOWNSHIP — Two men were hospitalized this morning after the vehicle they were driving went off the road and overturned in a gravel pit.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an off-road, personal injury crash report at approximately 3:14 a.m. this morning.

The crash occurred in a gravel pit on the northwest corner of Peoples and Klees roads.

Deputies arrived to find a modified Geo Tracker had overturned, injuring a 29-year-old Stanton man and a 25-year-old Sheridan man.

The two men were transported to Sheridan Community Hospital by Montcalm County EMS.

The Stanton man was later transferred to Spectrum in Grand Rapids.

A 22-year-old female from Sheridan reported that the three were riding in the gravel pit when the vehicle they were in overturned.

The woman was uninjured.

Deputies searched the area and located several open and unopened cans of beer as well as a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.

Day Township Fire also assisted at the scene. This incident remains under investigation.
