CARSON CITY — For the second time this season the Carson City-Crystal football team will get a win without even taking the field.

The Eagles will get their eighth win after Ashley forfeited Friday’s game to the Eagles.

“I was notified by Mr. Farmer,” CC-Crystal coach Devin Pringle said of athletic director Larry Farmer. “My understanding is they (Ashley) were concerned about the numbers they were going to bring over on Friday, they got together and decided to forfeit.”

A post on the “Go Eagles” Facebook page made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, saying “Ashley is dealing with several eligibility issues, as well as several players who can not play due to receiving concussions and other injuries the previous two weeks.”

The Eagles also were given a forfeit by Manistee Catholic Central for the Sept. 7 game for similar reasons.

“It’s always difficult,” Pringle said. “We have structured our week on improving what we need to improve on. It gives us more time to focus on ourselves.”

Pringle noted Farmer tried to get a game scheduled to replace the Bears, but to no avail.

“We tried all the way until (Wednesday) to get a replacement game and it didn’t happen,” he said. “So we’re just going to focus on getting ready for Potterville next Friday.”

Pringle said he would have rather played the games against Manistee Catholic and Ashley.

“We don’t have disrespect for anyone but we feel confident (either) playing the game of forfeit we’d win the game,” he said. “We’d still be 8-0 whether we play the game or not in my humble opinion. But when the playoffs come along we’re pretty confident the teams will show up and that gives us something to look forward to.”

The forfeit gives the Eagles a perfect 5-0 league record and the MSAC-South championship outright.

The Eagles will play the Vikings in Potterville Oct. 25.
