Hometown Hornets to face Harlem Wizards

STANTON — The Harlem Wizards are coming to Central Montcalm High School.

The Wizards are a show basketball team that combines comedy, athleticism, tricks, teamwork, dazzling ball-handling and extreme dunks.

Their opponent is the Hometown Hornets. They consist of Central Montcalm public school faculty, students and community members.

The event is hosted by the Central Montcalm Upper Elementary (CMUE) PTO. The effort is to raise funds for the CMUE PTO, but in a non-traditional, fun and exciting manner.

“We wanted to try a new unique fundraiser that not only benefits our PTO, but also benefits the whole community,” organizer Nicole Ciganik said. “This is a better than selling a candy bar or a roll of wrapping paper. This is something the whole family can do together and it’s extremely affordable.”

The Wizards, known for their comedy routines, makes it a perfect family event.

“It’s two hours of family time where children, parents and grandparents can all laugh together,” Ciganik said. “When you’re in the stands, you’re more than a spectator. You’re part of a show with loads of audience participation.”

Money raised will go toward the PTO fund.

“We fund different educational things throughout the school year,” Ciganik said. “We help teachers with supplies for their classroom and many other things.”

The game takes place Monday at Central Montcalm High School with tipoff at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.harlemwizards.com, Bookwalker Motor Sale, today in the high school commons ( 6 to 7 p.m.) and from participating players and PTO members.

Sponsors helping to make this event possible include Bookwalter Motor Sales, AmericInn, Blake Hollenbeck Auto, Bush Hardware, Leppinks, Anderson & Girls Orchards, Hundred Acre Woods Daycare, M-66 Fireworks, Apple Land Realty Greenville, K & W Tools and B.C. Pizza Stanton.

Tickets in advance of the game costs $12 for adults and $8 for children. Tickets will be available prior to the game, but for $15 for adults and $10 for children. Limited VIP and front row seating is available for $25 to $40.
