BELDING — Three members of the Belding City Council were sworn into office Tuesday evening, pledging an oath to defend the laws and ordinances of the city and perform their duties as council members “with fidelity.”
At the beginning of the meeting, Ron Gunderson and Mike Scheid were sworn into office by City Clerk Kareen Thomas as they took their oaths of office. Both men were re-elected to the council in the Nov. 5 election.

Immediately following the oaths of office, council members voted for the positions of mayor and mayor pro tem for the city, as is performed after each election of city council members.
Gunderson was nominated for mayor by Scheid, with support from Councilman Tom Jones. With no other nominations or discussion, council members voted unanimously to re-elect Gunderson. He has been mayor since November 2011.
“Wow, thank you,” Gunderson said in response. “It’s a privilege and an honor to be mayor. I also am looking forward to moving forward with the city and its needs. I’d like to thank my wife Carla for supporting me through this endeavor and the prayers we have received.”
Gunderson will hold the title of mayor for three years until the next election of council members in November 2016.
Jones was nominated by Scheid for the position of mayor pro tem with support from Councilman Joe Feuerstein. With no other nominations or discussion, council members voted unanimously to elect Jones.
“Thank you, I think,” said Jones with a smile. “I’d like to welcome Jerry to the council and (congratulate) Mike and Ron on their re-election. I’m glad to see Ron as the mayor again. He’s done a great job. I’ve only been on the council since January, but I can see he’s worked hard.”
Jones will also hold his position for three years until the 2016 election.
City Manager Meg Mullendore congratulated all three council members on being elected to city council.
“Congratulations to council members Scheid and Gunderson for your reappointments and also to council member Lallo for your election (and) additionally to Mayor Gunderson and Mayor Pro Tem Jones,” Mullendore said. “I’m looking forward to working with you all as usual.”
