BLANCHARD — Montabella’s volleyball team had only one win in the entire 2013 season, but that win came at a pretty good time.
The win was in the Mid-State Activities Conference tournament, and it propelled the Mustangs to a third-place finish overall.
Overall Montabella was 1-26 and 0-5 in the MSAC.
Coach Jordann Jankowsky said this was a “season of learning.”
“Not only were the girls learning the game of volleyball but I was also learning how to run a program,” Jankowsky said.
The win in the MSAC tournament was the high point of the season, she noted.
“We beat a team we had lost to two other times during the season and knowing we could beat them both times, so finally beating them was definitely the high point of the season,” Jankowsky said.
Jankowsky noted the contributions of a couple of players who stood out to her.
“Makalia Kent and her serving was a huge contribution to the team,” she said. “Gabby Dobbrastine, pulling her up as a freshman and her being our libero, she did a great job.”
Jankowsky said she will lose a couple of players but will have a big number returning.
“We have seven girls returning so that’s a plus,” she said. “We are going to keep going up every year.”
One thing the Mustangs will have to do to keep going up will be to play more in the offseason.
“The girls need to play more volleyball in the offseason to get more experience playing,” Jankowsky said. “That is what we lack so playing more in the offseason will help each girl.”
