Greenville 40, Muskegon Reeths-Puffer 37: The Yellow Jackets used an 11-5 third quarter to help pull away from the Rockets on Tuesday night to open the high school basketball season. Leah Somerfield led the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Greenville. Nikota Howe and Paige Hallock each added seven points, while Mackenzie Ball had six points. Hallock grabbed six rebounds. Record: 1-0. Next game: at Belding Friday.

Belding 54, Lakewood 19: The Redskins made things look easy on Tuesday night as they opened the basketball season with a huge win over the Vikings at home. McKenzie Breimayer led the Redskins with 17 points, five steals and four assists. Peyton Mount added 10 points, while Greta Wilker grabbed eight rebounds. Katie Wood scored eight and Stefanie Harig seven points. Record: 1-0. Next game: at home Friday against Greenville.

Clare 64, Montabella 37: The Mustangs opened their season Tuesday with a loss to the Pioneers, who got 23 points from Lindsey Winter. Krista Daws led Montabella with 11 points including three triples and Sarah Miller had eight points and 10 rebounds. Record: 0-1. Next game: at home against Ashley Friday.
