Main Street Dance Company owner Stephanie Oster has 70 students participating in dance classes currently. She will start accepting more dancers by fall 2014.

STANTON — These days dancing comes naturally to Stephanie Oster. But when you’ve been dancing since pre-school, that’s bound to happen. Oster, who owns Main Street Dance Company, was first bit by the dancing bug at age 3, and has been at it ever since.

It’s only been since early last summer that she’s owned her own studio. For many years before that, Oster worked for the studio’s previous owner, Phyllis Wells.

“I worked for her for five years,” Oster explained. “Then she decided she didn’t want to continue with it so she turned everything over to me around the end of May.”

Though she loves dance, owning a studio was not in Oster’s long-term plans until recently.

Upon graduation, Oster, a French major at Adrian College, found work in her field was hard to come by locally. When the position opened up at the studio, she was quick to accept it.

At present, the studio boasts about 70 students in 14 different classes, all of which have at least some room for additional students. Also, the studio hosts the popular Zumba fitness classes three days each week.

For the moment, though, the class sizes are set. Oster won’t be able to accept new students until next fall.

“Right now, it just depends on how much room we wind up having. We’re getting close right now to where we start our recital dances,” Oster explained. “We won’t be taking on new students until the start of next school year. We start in September, around the second week after school starts.”

The studio’s recital date is May 31 at the Endeavor Center in Edmore. The start time has yet to be set.

Though the preponderance of students in Oster’s classes are girls, she does have a few boys taking classes, as well.

“They really enjoy it,” she said.
