GREENVILLE — With his left hand on the Bible and his right raised in the air, Philip Watkins was sworn in Friday as the new postmaster for the Greenville Post Office.
Watkins has been serving as interim postmaster for the location since November 2012 and was officially appointed to the position Friday.
“I’m sorry we took so long to do this,” Post Office Operations Manager Jacque Vican joked with the post carriers just prior to swearing in Vican.
All jokes aside, Vican said the appointment of Watkins to Greenville’s post master was a perfect fit and felt he would continue to do great things.
“Phil is a very dedicated and hard working postmaster,” she said. “He’s very dedicated to his employees.”
And now dedicated to the area.
Born and raised in Flint, Watkins has since then moved on to posts in Grand Rapids and most recently Ionia County, before coming to he Greenville post in 2012.
“I love it here,” said Watkins, who now lives nearby with his wife of 24 years, Nikki. They two have two daughters. “I moved my family here at the beginning of the school year.”
Not only does he enjoy living on the west side of the state, but said the Greenville post office is filled with great people.
“They’re a great bunch of people,” he said. “I have a great crew here who get the job done and are very customer oriented. And that’s what I like.”
Watkins goes from interim status to official post master, but he said little will change.
“It will be business as usual.”
