Boys basketball

Vestaburg 68, Evart 57: The Wolverines picked up a non-conference win over the Wildcats Monday night thanks to the second straight 20-point performance from DeWayne McKinney. He also had 10 rebounds. Keegan Scott added 18 to Vestaburg’s effort. Record: 5-5. Next game: at home against Montabella Friday.

Lowell 70, Greenville 64: The Yellow Jackets committed 17 turnovers and shot just 34 percent from the field Monday night in losing to the Red Arrows in a make-up game from Dec. 20. Ian Cooper Led Greenville with 16 points, Stephen Roy added 13 and Ryan Davis added 12 for Greenville. Matt Beachler led Lowell with 20 and Ryan Stevens added 18. Record: 6-5. Next game: at Allendale today.

Coopersville 54, Belding 52: The Redskins led 52-51 before the Broncos’ Kyle Gura hit a three-pointer with two seconds left to hand Belding an O-K Blue Conference loss Monday night. Garrett Strotheide led the Redskins with 25 points including seven triples and Kole Hart added 13. Record: 3-9 (1-5). Next game: at home against CC-Crystal Wednesday.

Clare 54, Montabella 43: The Mustangs were outscored 39-24 in the middle two quarters to lose to the Pioneers Monday night. Chase Murray had 15 points, Cayden Nisonger added 11 and Brady Burggren had 10 for 36 of the 43 Montabella points. Record: 3-8. Next game: at home against the Butternut Homeschoolers Wednesday.

Girls basketball

Greenville 49, Lowell 40: The Yellow Jackets outscored the Red Arrows 14-6 in the final quarter to pull out their 10th win of the season on Monday. The game was a makeup from Dec. 20. Leah Somerfield scored a game-high 27 points. While doing so Somerfield reached the 1,000 point mark for her career. Nikota Howe had 11 points and five rebounds, while Somerfield added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Record: 10-2. Next game: at home today against Grand Rapids West Catholic.

Belding 52, Coopersville 48: The Redskins picked up a makeup O-K Blue Conference win on Monday. McKenzie Breimayer led the way with 19 points. Peyton Mount followed with nine points, while Monica Baylis and Greta Wilker had eight and seven points, respectively. Wilker grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Record: 9-3 (4-2). Next game: at home against Montabella today.


Montabella 2-0 in make-up: The Mustangs wrapped up their regular season Monday by making up a CMAC triangular meet with Fulton and Dansville Monday night. Montabella won both meets, downing the Pirates 61-18 and the Eagles 55-20. Winning both their matches for the Mustangs were Dustin Scott (125 pounds), Dalton Kuklewski (130), Tristan Viglianco (135), Nate Miller (140), Mike Hyde (145), Zack Taubitz (152), Joey Durham (160), Jonny Durham (171) and Dan Davidson (285). Record: 17-6 (4-2). Next match: at Breckenridge for the Division 4 team districts Wednesday.
