RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — A local foster care resident remains in critical condition after being struck by a pick-up truck Sunday afternoon near Vestaburg.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash, which occurred on Howard City-Edmore Road (M-46) near Bollinger Road in Richland Township shortly before 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

David Sulick, 61, is a resident of Pine Point Adult Foster Care Home in Riverdale. According to the sheriff’s office, Sulick was picking up cans along the road when he suddenly ran across the road without checking for traffic.

An eastbound 2000 Chevrolet pickup driven by Donald Sherwood, 62, of Mason, struck Sulick.

Sulick was transported to Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma and was later flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw by Flight Care where he remains in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.

Sherwood and his 57-year-old female passenger were not injured.

According to the sheriff’s office, alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the accident. No charges are expected to be issued against Sherwood as he was not at fault in the accident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Staff at Pine Point Adult Foster Care Home declined to comment.
