CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A 26-year-old Crystal man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his brother early Saturday morning.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on the 8000 Block of East Sidney Road shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies found a 24-year-old Crystal man with a single stab wound to the abdomen. The man was transported to Carson City Hospital and was later taken to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, where he underwent surgery. He is currently listed in stable condition.

The suspect, the victim’s 26-year-old brother, had fled the scene prior to the deputies’ arrival. The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was called in, but the suspect could not be found until later that day. He was arrested without incident and is expected to be arraigned today.

The motive for the assault is not known, but it appears alcohol was involved, according to police.

The Carson City Police Department and Michigan State Police also assisted deputies with the investigation.
