EUREKA TOWNSHIP — An 81-year-old female with dementia went missing from her home in this township for more than 14 hours before she was found walking in Kent County over the weekend.
The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the woman’s family that she was missing after last being seen around 1:30 p.m. Saturday while picking up sticks near her home.
The woman lives alone, but her family said she is a very active person and usually walks around the block daily. However, when the family checked on her later Saturday they could not locate her and deputies were called to assist in the search.
An area broadcast was issued to surrounding agencies and the media. K-9 units from the sheriff’s office, as well as the Michigan State Police, were used in the search. A Michigan State Police helicopter was also called in, but failed to locate the woman.
A Michigan State Police K-9 trooper on his way home around 5 a.m. Sunday located the woman walking along Lincoln Lake Road near 8 Mile Road in Kent County. Other than being a bit cold she was in good condition.
She was taken to an area hospital to be checked over and later returned home. The Michigan State Police K-9 and Aviation units along with the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Posse and the Greenville Department of Public Safety assisted in the search.
