EVERGREEN TOWNSHIP — A 61-year old Crystal man was briefly hospitalized Wednesday after flipping his aluminum boat on Loon Lake.

The man was more than 100 yards from shore when his boat tipped and he fell into the water.

A female neighbor saw the incident, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m., and called 911. The woman, along with another neighbor, attempted to rescue the man using a small paddleboat, but that too capsized.

The Montcalm County Dive Team and the Crystal Township Fire Department arrived soon after and were able to reach the people in the water and bring them to safety.

The Crystal man was transported by the Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services to Carson City Hospital, where he was treated and released the same evening.

It is believed that the man was in the water for at least a half hour before being rescued. Life jackets were not being worn by any of the people involved.
