SIDNEY TOWNSHIP — An Edmore man was arrested on assault and drug charges Sunday after allegedly aiming a long pellet gun at another motorist along Stanton Road.
Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies responded after 5:30 p.m. to what they are calling a “road rage incident” with a report of weapons being involved.
A Stanton couple was traveling east on Stanton Road when they were tailgated by another vehicle driven by a 46-year-old Edmore man.
According to police, the couple pulled over to allow the driver to pass, however the man stopped and exited his vehicle with a tire iron.
The couple continued eastbound toward Stanton as the Edmore man continued to follow before passing the couple and then immediately pulling to the shoulder of the road.
As the Stanton couple passed the parked Edmore man, he pointed a long gun at them.
The Edmore man was later located in Stanton and a felony stop was executed. The man was taken into custody without incident.
It was determined he possessed a pellet gun and was also illegally transporting marijuana. The suspect is lodged at the Montcalm County Jail on a charge of felonious assault and violation of controlled substance.
He is expected to be arraigned on the charges later today. The Stanton man and woman were not injured in the incident.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office at (989) 831-7590.
