Memorial Day weekend schedule of events for Hubbardston

HUBBARDSTON — Annual Memorial Day festivities will return to downtown Hubbardston this weekend.

Following is a schedule of events:

 

Today

• Antique car show and bike show, 6 p.m., American Legion Post 182.

 

Friday

• 40 & Over softball game, 6 p.m., contact Tammi Cusack at (989) 981-6526 or Brad Brooks at (616) 558-8159 for more details.

 

Saturday

• Shiels Tavern will be open from 8 p.m. to midnight.

• Men’s softball tournament, 8 a.m., contact Jimmy Barker at (989) 981-6002 for more details.

• Children’s inflatable playground, 10 a.m. throughout the day.

• Children’s crafts, 10 a.m. to noon, Mill Pond Park, make an ornament for the Memorial Tree.

• Horseshoe tournament, 11 a.m., Mill Pond Park, sign-up starts at 10:30 a.m.

• Soap box derby for anyone 14 and older, noon, contact Kelly Melton at (989) 763-7666 for more details.

• Face painting for children, noon to 4 p.m., Hubbardston Book Nook.

• Jail and bail fundraiser for Hubbardston Book Nook, jail at Hubbardston hardware building at the four corners, warrants for minors $2 with jail time unless bail paid, warrants for adults $10 with jail time unless bail paid, pay for warrants to be executed for your “favorite” person and help raise funds for the library.

• 200-yard foot race wearing chest waders filled with water, 2:30 p.m., tractor pulling track at the bottom of the American Legion hill, bring your own waders, sign up starts at 2 p.m., must be 18 or older to participate, contact Tim Chartrand at (989) 981-6979 for more details.

• Washer tournament, 3 p.m., Mill Pond Park, proceeds to go to Memorial Day Committee, contact Tammi Cusack at (989) 981-6526 for more details.

• Outdoor movie at dusk, rated PG-13, village building across from park, bring your own lawn chair or blanket, concessions will be available.

 

Sunday

• Men’s softball tournament, 8 a.m.

• Outdoor Mass, 9 a.m., bring a chair, cemetery dedication to follow, rolls and coffee will be served at St. John the Baptist Hall.

• Tractor pulls, 10 a.m., American Legion Post 182.

• Co-ed softball tournament, noon, contact Amy McMillan at (989) 860-0524 for details.

 

Monday

• 5K run, sign-up starts at 6:45 a.m. at Hubbardston Community Center, race starts at 8 a.m., contact Carolyn Cunningham at (989) 593-3252 or Jason Werner at (989) 593-3073 for more details.

• Children’s inflatable playground, 10 a.m. throughout the day.

• Dedication of East Plains Cemetery in Matherton, music provided by the Pewamo-Westphalia High School Band, noon.

• Face painting for children, noon to 4 p.m., Hubbardston Book Nook.

• Bridge dedication, 12:15 p.m.

• Hubbardston Irish Dancers perform downtown, 12:30 p.m.

• Parade plop, pay $5 to  have your body outlined on the parade route and if a horse plops on your outline you will win a prize, proceeds will be split between the parade committee and the Hands on Hubbardston Committee, see Kelly Melton or Sheena Hawn for more details.

• Grand Parade, 1:30 p.m., Scott Schmitt announcing, karaoke contest to follow.

• Championship games on Dugan Field (if needed), 2 p.m.

• Duck race at the bridge, 2:15 p.m., ducks will be for sale at the main stage during the parade.
