SCOTTVILLE — The Lakeview Wildcats earned the opportunity on Thursday to continue its golf season.
The Wildcats were one of six teams advancing from a Division 3 district tournament at Lakeside Links to the regional tournament.
Lakeview fired a 368 to finish fourth in the 12-team tournament. Ludington won the district championship with a 307. Chippewa Hills shot 357 and Whitehall 362. Shelby (373) and Ravenna (375) also advanced to regionals.
The top six teams and top six individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to regionals.
“The team continues to not only meet our expectations, but exceed them,” Lakeview coach Brian Corwin said. “Our team played very well on a course that can prove to be very challenging around the greens.”
Jon Wandel, who committed to Rochester College last week, led the Wildcats with a 78, which was the third best round behind a pair of 73s from Ludington’s Ethan Leavitt and Race Anderson.
Benett Tomandl shot 93 and Ben Outman 97 for Lakeview. Jake Park and Seth Kanouse each shot 100.
“One of our goals this season was to be competitive at districts,” Corwin said. “Not only were we competitive, but we qualified for regionals as a team for the second year in a row.”
Central Montcalm finished with a round of 390.
Mason Ferguson and Calab Daggett each shot 95s. Josh Mitchell added a 99, Gunther Ebels 101 and Nate Saladin 129.
Lakeview will compete in regionals at Eagle Glen in Farwell on Wednesday.
The Greenville Yellow Jackets competed in Division 2 at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Ada, but did not qualify for regionals as a team on Thursday.
Two Greenville golfers did qualify for regionals as individuals.
The Yellow Jackets shot 354. Forest Hills Northern won the district with 309.
Also advancing were Forest Hills Eastern (311), Muskegon Reeths-Puffer (329), Spring Lake (333), Kenowa Hills (334) and Comstock Park (342).
Northern’s Spencer Schab was match medalist with a 74.
Danny Bohner shot 84 for Greenville and Matt Critttenden 85. Both advanced to regionals.
Ryan Davis finished with 89, Chris Ralph 96 and AJ Ebels 98.
Tri County will compete today in Division 2 at Cadillac Country Club.
The Montabella Mustangs just missed out on a team trip to regionals on Thursday at The Emerald in St. Johns.
The Mustangs shot 403, just behind Bath’s 402, which finished sixth. Fowler won the district with a 329. Fulton shot 356, Pewamo-Westhphalia 370, Springport 379 and Jackson Christian 381.
“Our team was disappointed that the cut was so close because they had made it a team goal to make it to regionals again as a team this year,” Montabella coach Nichole Howe said. “Even though we didn’t make it in as a team, I’m extremely proud that three of my golfers are now able to compete at the individual level at the regional tournament.”
Michael Hyde (92), Dakoda Lobert (95) and Josh Balhorn (99) all advanced to regionals. Casey Ewell shot 117 and Cameron Nisonger 145.
Jackson Christian’s Noah Schneider was match medalist with 73.
“The regional course will be challenging, so we’ll refocus and practice the way we’ll need to play to post good scores at MCC,” Howe said.
The Division 4 regional will be held at Muskegon Country Club on Thursday.
