GREENVILLE — Folks who complain there’s nothing fun to do on weekends in Greenville are going to have to find something else to gripe about beginning at precisely 7 p.m. May 31. That’s when 57 Brew Pub & Bistro, 1310 West Washington St., debuts its new outdoor live music and dining venue.

The popular night spot has dropped some serious cash into creating a live concert atmosphere to rival anything found in larger cities. The outdoor area features a spacious deck with umbrella-sheltered tables (built last year), a large “green area,” also with tables and chairs, and, new this year, an outdoor bar with stools and a classic stage any band would be happy to perform on.

The venue also offers “open seating,” where customers may bring their own lawn chairs and enjoy a cocktail (or two, there’s a two-drink minimum) outdoors while listening to some of the finest live music the area has to offer.

The final touches are being put on the outdoor seating area now, according to 57 General Manager Sherry Aellening.

“We’re putting the finishing touches on it,” Aellen said. “Next week the lawn furniture goes in and it’ll be ready. We’re very excited.”

Aellen added she really got excited about the idea after visiting The Score, a sports bar and nightclub on Northland Drive near Grand Rapids that features a similar outdoor venue.

“They were packed,” she said. “We’re hoping it’ll turn out that way here.”

To help ensure it does, Aellen has booked some of the best area bands to play the club, starting next Saturday with Those Delta Rhythm Kings, a Lansing-based blues and big band-style group. Other bands on the bill for this summer include Matthew Gabriel, Entourage, David Gerald Band, Thirsty Perch, The Midnight Cattle Callers and Cadillac West Band.

57 Brew has spared no expense in making the venue something really special, particularly for the area. Aellen is expecting the investment to pay off in the long run.

“Everything costs money,” she said. “We really think the investment is going to be worth it. We’re going to see how thing progress; we’ll see how it goes and grow from there.”

More information about the outdoor venue and music schedule is available at the Brew Pub’s website, 57brewpub.com.
