Belding man arrested for felonious assault

EUREKA TOWNSHIP — A Belding man is in custody for allegedly assaulting another man after an argument escalated to the point that a gun was raised but not fired.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a felonious assault report in the 11000 block of South River road in Eureka Township at approximately 1:20 p.m. Thursday.

The initial report indicated that the victim, a fifty-year-old man from Belding, went to the home of a friend on River road and was confronted by the suspect, a fifty-year-old man also of Belding, who was living on the same property.

An argument erupted between the two which led to the suspect retrieving a long gun and pointing it at the victim.

The deputies arrived and apprehended the suspect without incident and the weapon, a single-shot shotgun, was recovered.

The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect.

No one was injured during the incident.

The Greenville Department of Public Safety assisted at the scene and Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services was placed on standby during the event.

The suspect is expected to be charged and arraigned on felony charges.
