Girls track

Kemp third, fourth at state: Greenville freshman Landon Kemp took a third and a fourth at the Division 1 state track finals Saturday. Kemp was third in the pole vault (12-0) and fourth in the long jump (17-9 ½). Kemp broke her own school pole vault record for the second time on Saturday. Her previous best was 11-8.

Baylis fifth at state: Monica Baylis of Belding took the only points in the Division 2 state track meet Saturday, getting a fifth in the 800-meter run (2:18.47).

Beyer sixth at state: Carson City-Crystal’s Kaitlyn Beyer was the only area scorer at the Division 3 state meet Saturday, taking a sixth in the 3,200 (11:34.07).

Three places for Montabella: The Mustangs took three places at the Division 4 state meet Saturday. The 3,200-meter relay team of Taylor Smith, Kensington Garvey, Kim Buskirk and Alyviah Karcher was fifth (10:05.10), while Garvey herself was eighth in the 800 (2:25.03) and Smith was fifth in the 3,200 (11:48.74).

Boys track

Lakeview gets two at state: Trevor Bacon of Lakeview was one of two placers at the Division 3 state meet Saturday, taking an eighth in the shot put (49-1 ½). The other was Drake Boomer, who was second in the long jump (22-0).


Morley Stanwood 3, Lakeview 0: The Wildcats were two-hit in the Division 3 district they hosted Saturday. Kyler Ridgeway pitched all seven innings, striking out eight, walking one and giving up seven hits. Lakeview’s two hits were from Garrett Cavendish and Calvin Englund. Record: 9-16. Next game: Lakeview’s season is over.

Evart 4, Central Montcalm 0: The Green Hornets got only an Oryan Wetherington hit against Evart in the Division 3 district tournament at Lakeview Saturday. Noah Spohr took the loss as the starter but no statistics were given for him. Record: 12-21-1. Next game: Central’s season is over.

East Grand Rapids 15, Belding 1: The Redskins were mercied in six innings by the Pioneers in Belding’s own Division 2 district Saturday. The Redskins didn’t help themselves by committing five errors. Record: 12-22. Next game: Belding’s season is over.

Rockford 15, Greenville 0: The Yellow Jackets were mercied in three innings by the Rams at the Division 1 district at Grand Rapids Northview Saturday. Parker Syrjala started and took the loss. Record: 15-14. Next game: Greenville’s season is over.


Rockford 10, Greenville 7 (8 innings): The Yellow Jackets were beat in the Division 1 district at Grand Rapids Northview Saturday, losing when the Rams scored three runs in the extra inning for the win. Alecia Moore went all eight innings for Greenville, giving up 13 hits, walking two and fanning four. Sarah Newhouse and Elizabeth Niemiec had three hits each for the Jackets and Nikota Howe and Devon Tate had two each for 10 of the 12 Greenville hits. Record: 18-17. Next game: Greenville’s season is over.
