EUREKA TOWNSHIP — Two teenage siblings were trapped this morning after a tree tangled in power lines fell onto their car.

A Montcalm County sheriff’s deputy came upon a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu stuck under a fallen tree around 7 a.m. today on Harlow Road east of West County Line Road.

The deputy realized two occupants were trapped in the car as a power line was entangled in the tree.

A 16-year-old Gowen girl had been driving the car east on Harlow Road when a tree fell along the edge of the road, pulling down a power line with it. The power line, as well as branches from the large oak tree, fell on the car causing the driver and her 15-year-old brother to be trapped.

Consumers Energy and Greenville Department of Public Safety personnel were able to remove the live power lines from the car. The teenagers were safely removed from the car and were not injured.

Montcalm County experienced strong storms early this morning and a number of fallen trees were reported while people commuted to work.
