IONIA — Today, the Ionia County Economic Alliance and The Right Place, in partnership with the city of Ionia and the Michigan Economic Development Corp., announced Ventra Ionia Main LLC, a subsidiary of Ventra Greenwich Holdings Corp., plans to invest up to $8.5 million to expand operations in the city of Ionia.
As a result, Ventra intends to create up to 144 jobs. To support the company’s expansion, it will receive $995,000 in state and local development support.
To support the company’s growth and its continued investment in Michigan, Ventra has been awarded a $500,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. The city of Ionia is supportive of the expansion project and is expected to approve a Public Act 198 local abatement valued at $495,000.
The company chose Michigan over other competing sites in the U.S. and Mexico.
In 2007, Ventra Ionia Main acquired the 724,000-square-foot facility which has continuously operated since 2000 at 14 N. Beardsley St. in Ionia. Ventra manufactures automotive front and rear bumpers and grille assemblies for original equipment manufacturers including Ford and General Motors. The company offers diverse manufacturing capabilities, including: stamping, welding, chrome plating, molding, assembly, and testing.
“Ventra’s latest investment in Ionia reaffirms the economic growth that has continued to occur in the county,” said Jen Wangler, business development manager for The Right Place and Ionia County Economic Alliance. “Including this latest announcement, ICEA has spurred nearly 290 new jobs and $70 million in new capital investment in Ionia County over the past two years.”
