Belding man flees from police

BELDING — A 26-year-old Belding man is lodged in Ionia County Jail after leading police on a foot chase after allegedly fleeing an officer who was attempting to arrest him on outstanding warrants.

The man was wanted by Belding police on two felony warrants.

Officer Shannon Hummel spotted the man about 2:30 p.m. Monday near the corner of Broas and Main streets while on patrol and when she approached him he fled on foot.

The chase led police across the Flat River and back through adjoining neighborhoods.

After a 30-minute chase the suspect was apprehended after jumping a fence near the intersection of Congress and Broas streets.

The suspect is lodge in the Ionia County Jail on the two felony warrants; home invasion and receiving and concealing stolen property. He also faces additional charges.

The Belding Police Department were assisted by the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police.
