JUST IN: 2 women injured in deer-vehicle accident on U.S. 131

REYNOLDS TOWNSHIP —  Two women were hospitalized with minor injuries after a deer struck by another vehicle was thrown through their windshield along U.S. 131 on Saturday afternoon

According to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office, Pamela Salamone, 55, of Caledonia, was traveling south on U.S. 131 shortly after 5 p.m. when a separate vehicle struck a deer in the roadway, causing it to go through the windshield of Salamone’s 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.

Salamone and her passenger, Susan Smith, 53, of Martin, sustained minor injuries. Both were transported to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services for treatment.
The off ramp from US 131 to M-46 was closed for approximately a half hour while the scene was cleared.

The crash was investigated by the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office.
