EDMORE — A special meeting of the Edmore Village Council tonight turned into an impromptu community forum when four of the council members failed to show up.

President Chet Guild and councilmen Eddie Adams, Chuck Burr and Jerry Rasmussen were all no-shows to tonight’s meeting. Instead, council members Bonnie Ashbaugh, Karen Deja and Art Schuitema led a community forum for about 50 people who were in attendance.

Community members who spoke voiced their concern about the council voting 4-2 last Monday to not extend Village Manager Neil Rankin’s contract. People used words like “injustice,” “illegal,” “unethical” and “dirty, backhanded politics” to describe the actions of Guild, Adams, Burr and Rasmussen.

In the meantime, Rankin will continue to work village manager as the council needs at least five votes to terminate his position.
