BELMONT – Michelle Wie had won the US Open and was riding some momentum going into the LPGA Classic.

But after nine holes on Thursday, Wie withdrew from the tournament at Blythefield Country Club after injuring her right wrist.

Wie was at plus-5 41 after nine holes when she came off the course.

Wie was later seen coming out of the sports medicine trailer with a small wrap on her right wrist.

I just don’t know what happened,” Wie said to reporters afterward. “I just started hurting last week and it just started getting worse. It got to the point where I couldn’t really hold a club today.”

Wie said she was going to get an MRI.

Hopefully I can play next week,” she said. “So we’ll see.”

Wie walked away from reporters without taking questions.

Next week is the LPGA Championship in Rochester, New York. It’s the fourth major in the LPGA tour.
