OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP — Police have identified a man who died in a two-car crash on M-57 near Greenville last month.
Charles Gregory Samuel, 20, of Greenville, died in the crash Wednesday night, July 23.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:37 p.m. on 14 Mile Road (M-57), east of Wellman Road, about six miles west of Greenville.
A red Toyota Camry was traveling east on 14 Mile Road when, according to witnesses, the vehicle passed another eastbound vehicle on the right shoulder and lost control while re-entering the roadway.
The Camry then crossed the center line into westbound traffic and was struck by a westbound white Chevy Traverse.
The driver of the Camry, a 21-year-old Greenville man, was pinned in the vehicle and was listed in serious condition. Two passengers were thrown from the vehicle.
Samuel, one of the passengers, was pronounced dead at the scene while the other passenger was injured, but was listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Chevy Traverse, a 35-year-old woman from Cedar Springs, was also injured. She was also listed in stable condition.
All injured parties were transported to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.
According to the Michigan State Police, alcohol and speed are considered determining factors in the accident.
The Michigan State Police Rockford Post is not yet releasing the names those involved in the accident, other than Samuel.
